Why Double-Sided Timing Belts

Double-sided timing belts with teeth on both faces for serpentine drives and reverse-bend paths. HTD and trapezoidal profiles, standard and custom sizes.

  • Teeth Orientation Not all double-sided belts have teeth directly opposite each other. Some designs offset the outer teeth (staggered) to reduce noise and distribute load. If you are replacing a belt, match the tooth arrangement — a mismatched orientation wears fast and runs loud.
  • Backside Wrap The outer teeth engage pulleys that sit on the outside face. Because the outer teeth are smaller than the inner teeth in some designs, outside-wrap pulleys must be sized accordingly. Confirm the outer tooth pitch matches the outside pulleys before ordering.
  • Tension A double-sided belt runs under tension on both faces, so tensioning follows the same deflection method, but the free span is measured on each side that carries load. The tension member is the same as single-sided — fiberglass, aramid, or steel by duty. ## Replacement Checklist When replacing a double-sided belt: 1. **Pitch on both faces** — inside and outside teeth must match their pulleys
