- Standard Widths and Lengths Common widths are 6, 9, 15, 20, 25, and 30 mm. Open-ended belts can be cut to any length; endless belts are built to standard pitch lengths (belt length is a whole number of 5 mm teeth). Are HTD 5M and GT2 belts the same?
No. GT2 has a 2 mm pitch and is used for light, high-resolution motion (3D printers). HTD 5M has a 5 mm pitch and carries more torque. The tooth shapes differ, and the belts are not interchangeable.
Can I get HTD 5M open-ended belts cut to length?
Yes. Open-ended 5M belts are supplied in rolls and cut to the exact length you specify. For endless belts, we make loops to standard pitch lengths.
What tension member is best for a 5M linear drive?
Steel cord gives the highest stiffness for precision positioning. Fiberglass is the economical standard for most drives. Aramid suits shock loads and high-speed applications where energy absorption matters.

Width is a function of load: a 9 mm belt carries roughly half the torque of a 15 mm belt at the same pitch. For light printer-style axes, 6-9 mm is enough; for industrial actuators, 15-25 mm is typical. When in doubt, size up — belt width is cheap compared to a failed drive.
